Details of Lokayukta police investigation and the State government’s inaction to dismiss a convicted senior official will now be placed before the Legislature. Taking serious note of a report sent by Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi, Governor H R Bhardwaj has asked the government to place the subject before the Legislature.
Justice Adi had sent the report to the Governor over the inaction of the State government to dismiss Senior Archaeological Conservator S M Pujar, who was convicted in a disproportionate assets (DA) case in 2011. He was sentenced to three years imprisonment with a hefty fine.
The Lokayukta police had raided his house in 1995 and later filed the chargesheet. Pujar moved the High Court and got a stay on the sentence. As per the service rules, a convicted government official has to be dismissed immediately.
The Lokayukta police sent many reminders to the government recommending the officers dismissal. A senior police official said the official was promoted even as he faced trial in the case.
