Nine personnel of Hindalga Central Jail have been suspended on Friday by Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons K V Gagandeep for their alleged negligence that helped gangster Yusuf Suleiman Kadri alias Yusuf Bachkana contact his gang mates in Mumbai.
According to official sources, jailors Ashok Bajantri and S R Shivapur along with seven others have been suspended. It may be recalled here that one inmate of Hindalga Jail Parshuram Nalawade was out on parole and went absconding. Sources inform that while in jail, he had developed contacts with Bachkana, who is a close aide of Chota Rajan.
Nalawade informed Bachkana about a builder Rajaram Manjhaokar. Bachkana asked him to extort money from Manjhaokar and began making calls to Manjhaokar but when he denied to pay, Bachkana instructed his men to shoot at the builder on May 13, to threaten and not kill. He again contacted one of his aide on May 21
Manjhaokar was travelling in his Skoda car when he was attacked Devipada, Borivali. He escaped unhurt. Police arrested Nalawade and on his information, they arrested the three accused, Rajendra Rawat alias Raju Nepali (32), Snehal alias Sunny Sawant (23) and Virendra Jadhav (18).
Mumbai police are seeking permission from the Home Ministry to bring Bachkana to Mumbai for interrogation.
During the inquiry, the higher jail authorities were informed about it, who then started conducting an internal inquiry at Hindalga Jail. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) S Ravi visited Hindalga jail to conduct an inquiry and on the basis of his report, the personnel were suspended, official sources said.
