The body of Wing Commander Darryl Castelino, who died in the chopper crash on Tuesday,  may reach Kolkata by Thursday, his family said here on Wednesday.

Castelino (39) was among the 20 who died while on a rescue mission to the flood-ravaged Uttarakhand. Before being sent on the rescue mission, Castelino was posted at the IAF base in Kolkata.

Castelino’s brother-in-law Rony  Olivera and other family members left for Kolkata on Wednesday morning.

Castelino’s family, including his wife Jyothi Castelino and children Ethan (7) and daughter Angelina (4), are residents of Vakola in Santa Cruz in Mumbai.

His family intends to organise the funeral at St Antony’s Church near Santa Cruz on Friday.

Meanwhile, it is reported that inclement weather in Uttarakhand is delaying the shifting of Castelino’s body to Kolkata.

One of his relatives told Express that Castelino often spoke about dedicating his life to the country, and was always prepared for the worst. The words, it seems, turned prophetic on Tuesday.

Castelino was born on November 2, 1975, to late Herald Castelino from Kadri and Leena Castelino from Kinnigoli.

His family had migrated to Chiragnagar in Ghatkopar in Mumbai before his birth.

His initial schooling was at Holy Cross High School in Kurla (W), Mumbai.
