Going a step ahead to increase the voting percentage, Chamarajanagar district administration decided to provide free transport facility to voters to take them to the polling booths.
The buses that carry the polling staff and EVMs to different polling booths of the district will be made use of this purpose.
“The buses will be idle once they transport the EVMs and staff at polling booths and till the voting is over. Hence it is decided to make use of it. This will also help prevent the candidates from bringing the voters to booths in private vehicles which is nothing but an inducement,” said Deputy Commissioner M V Savithri.
In the forest fringe villages, vehicles of the Forest Department will be utilised to transport voters from the remote areas to the polling stations. This will help the voters who are reluctant to go to the polling stations as they have to walk.
Besides, the transport facility will motivate the voters to cast their votes.
Voters should reject the vehicles offered by political parties to reach the polling stations.
Chamarajanagar DC Savithri said, “usually, KSRTC buses will carry the polling officials to the polling stations. The buses of the concerned polling stations were asked to go to villages and remote areas with the board ‘Only for Voters’ with route details.”
She said that this will motivate the voters.
‘‘Even we have arranged food by providing groceries to the schools where the midday meal is served to cook food for polling staff. We employ the staff to cook food for polling staff which will make them feel comfortable and not wait for the food from a local politician and leader that may lead to face the charges of discrimination in favour of the party or candidate,” the Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner said.
