In a rare distinction for Bellary, two youths from the city passed the Indian Administrative Service (mains) examination. But unsatisfied with their ranking, the duo has plans to make another attempt to top the list.
An Assistant Professor of Economics at Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Rashmi and a PhD student Krupakar B J have cracked the IAS (mains) with 429 and 976 ranks, respectively.
Heaving a sigh of relief, Rashmi recalled the days after the SSLC results and when she decided to study Arts in PUC. “My friends and relatives were not happy with my decision. Some said that I was wasting my life while others said that I will not get a good alliance. But I was not disturbed by such comments and kept on with my goal,” said Rashmi.
“It was my second attempt with Economics and Public Administration as my optional. In my first attempt I fell short by a few marks in the prelims,” she said.
She completed her high schooling and pre-university from ASM Women’s College, Bellary before moving to Mysore to complete her masters in Economics from University of Mysore where she secured 13 gold medals for her academic performance.
She started preparing for IAS examinations while pursuing her doctoral degree in economics.
Rashmi’s school mate B J Krupakar has also passed IAS (mains) with Sociology as his optional. Currently, Krupakar is doing his doctoral degree at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
Efforts to contact Krupakar went in vain but his elder sister Vanajakshi, a doctor by profession said, “Krupakar is bit disappointed since his ranking in has gone to 976 in the second attempt while his ranking in the first attempt was 786.
He, wants to have another go and improve his ranking at the all India level in his next attempt and he has begun his preparations.”
Krupakar completed his high school from Balabharathi and pre-university in Wardlaw College of Bellary. Jayanna, father of Krupakar said, he completed his engineering in electronics and communication from Suratkal and joined department of Political Science at JNU.
