KJP leader Vijay Sankeshwar urged the government to transfer Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner B A Padmanayan immediately. “My family and I received calls from a Pakistan-based number. I immediately filed a complaint with Padmanayan, who did not take any action. He should be transferred,” alleged Sankeshwar.

He told reporters here on Monday that on May 19, he received a call from an unknown number.

“When I called back, the person claimed that he was from New Delhi and told me that I had won Rs 25 lakh, and that if I gave him my account details, he would deposit the money. I abused him and disconnected the call. Later on, I ascertained that the number (92-300-75091230) was from Pakistan. My kids and wife got a call from the same number too, but they did not answer. I immediately informed Padmanayan, who did not do anything. He even casually remarked that the call was not terrorist related. I later filed a complaint with Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinath Joshi,” said Sankeshwar.

“He (Padmanayan) told me that my family is not only the complainant and that several people in the twin cities had received such calls. After Padmanayan has taken over as the Commissioner, the crime rate in the city has shot up and illegal activities have started to flourish, which is a shame,” alleged Sankeshwar. He also said that he will speak to the Home Minister in this regard.

Sankeshwar added that the Congress government at the centre is dead as it has failed to uphold the nation’s security and integrity.

Though the Congress is in the state, it should work for the security of its people, he added.

Meanwhile, Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner B A Padmanayan told Express said that Sankeshwar’s complaint has been sent to the Keshwapur police station.

“As soon as he filed a complaint, it was registered immediately. Keshwapur police are investigating it with the help of the Cyber Crime Department. In fact, his son also filed a complaint after a few days of Sankeshwar filing his complaint. His son had received a missed call. Again the complaint was forwarded to Keshwapur police station so that it can be added to the previous complaint. We have also stamped sections of law concerned, based on Sankeshwar’s complaint,” Padmanayan added.

When asked about the casual remark that was allegedly made by him, Commissioner Padmanayan denied having made any such statement.
