A new ‘Moulya Bhavan’ at a cost of Rs 15 crore will be constructed to house K-SET and outreach programmes, University of Mysore Vice-chancellor Prof K S Rangappa said.
The Academic College of the UoM has been identified as one of the 11 such centres to be upgraded, with state-of-the-art facilities in the country. A presentation has been given to the ministry in this regard, he added.
Rangappa said UoM will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tulane University of Thailand for student and staff exchange programmes. The MoU will be signed on May 30 when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in Thailand. Members from Tulane University had visited Mysore twice in this regard.
Punishment
Stating that research has completely declined in the university, Rangappa said he would evaluate the last three year’s performance of every department. The zero per cent result in last year’s mathematics K-SET reflects on the commitment of teachers, he said.
Hinting at punishment for low performance, he said lecturers are paid `1.5 lakh salary every month and henceforth getting increments will not be so easy. He also said that he is ready to share the performance of each department with the media so that the people know their caliber.
