A policeman tries to do justice to the people and invites wrath of a local politician. The harassed cop resigns to his job and plunges into politics. He contests the election and gets elected with a thumping majority.
Though this appears to be plot of a movie, it is the story of the newly-elected Kudachi MLA P Rajeev. Rajeev, 35, hogged the limelight at the oath ceremony of the newly-elected MLAs here on Wednesday. Clad in a white kurta and pyjama he had tied a green shawl around his head.Rajeev, who has a BSc degree, shared with reporters why and how he had entered politics.
“I was posted to Kudachi police station. People loved me as I was honest and upright. I worked in that station for one- and-a-half years. During that time I had a tiff with a local MLA who started harassing me. This made me think why I should not become an MLA to serve people better. I resigned to my government job. I unsuccessfully contested as an independent candidate in the 2008 Assembly elections,” he said.
When the Assembly polls were announced Rajeev decided to test the waters.
He contested from Kudachi constituency on Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress ticket. “The voters elected me with a margin of over 50,000 votes.I have joined politics not to make money, but to help the poor. I belong to Lambani community and they are hardly in Kudachi constituency. I hail from Shimoga district but got elected from a different district,” Rajeev said.
