The University of Mysore is in news again for all the wrong reasons. This time, it has withdrawn the inquiry into the charges of forgery, misuse of funds, tampering with service records and sexual harassment against four professors of Maharaja’s College and University Evening College.
Registrar of the University Prof P S Nayak, who handed over the inquiry to R Venkatesh, retired District and Sessions Judge, has withdrawn the case stating that there were no substantiable evidences in support of the charges against the four professors, levelled by the Mysore University Dalit Employees’ Association president N Nirmal Raju and others. Prof H Nanjegowda, who is working as the Administrative Officer of Maharaja’s College, is facing charges of tampering with the service register.
Now, the Syndicate of University of Mysore is planning to promote Dr H Nanjegowda as the Principal of the college.
In his letter to R Venkatesh, inquiry officer Nayak said, “I am to inform you that there are more allegations against the teachers C B Ramachandra, Nanjegowda and others without specific and substantiate evidences so as to be considered as a matter fit to proceed against the said teachers under the provisions of the Mysore University Employees Statutes 1983. Therefore, I request you to treat the matter as closed.”
On promotion to Nanjegowda, Nayak said the Syndicate has given powers to Vice-Chancellor Prof K S Rangappa to check the charges against Nanjegowda, and issue promotion orders if the charges are not proved. According to a copy of the service register of Maharaja’s College obtained by Dr Nirmal Raju, president, Mysore University Dalit Employees’ Association, Nanjegowda had allegedly tampered with the date of relieving him from Vidyavardhaka College of Business Management as August 20, 1980. He was relieved on August 28, 1980.
Referring to this, three Syndicate members at the meeting moved a dissent note against giving promotion to Nanjegowda and demanded the university to follow roster system.
