Social activist and founder of National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources (NCPNR) S R Hiremath on Sunday said that a CBI inquiry must be initiated on the Hubli sports ground issue.

“The then Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain committed a grave blunder by authorising the construction of a recreation club on the ground. I believe that a CBI inquiry must be initiated on the issue. These people (club authorities) are cheating the public,” Hiremath said.

He said that the ground was granted by the British government in 1915 only for sporting activities and not for consumption of alcohol and other activities.
