A 48-year-old fruit vendor died after being stabbed by an unidentified miscreant at Nagarthpet near Cottonpet on Sunday evening.
Police said the victim, Veliyappan, was from Tamil Nadu. The incident took place around 5.30 pm when Veliyappan was selling jackfruits from his pushcart. A man is said to have picked up a quarrel with him. Later, in a fit of rage, he stabbed Veliyappan with a knife and fled the scene.
A passerby took Veliyappan to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
