MYSORE: The police on Saturday cracked a sensational case in which a BPO employee allegedly murdered her blackmailer of many years by reversing her car over him.

The body of Hemanth Kumar V R (45), from Vijayanagar in Bangalore, was found on the Mysore-Bantwal highway on the night of July 31.

Hunsur police have now arrested Nafeesa (38), an employee at a call centre in Electronics City and resident of Sadashivanagar in Bangalore, for the murder.

According to Inspector Mallesh and sub-inspector Udayaravi of Hunsur, a frustrated Nafeesa killed Hemanth Kumar after he threatened to post her nude photos on the Internet.

They suspect the murder was inspired by the 1980s Bollywood thriller Karz, in which a ‘helpless’ woman kills her tormentor by knocking him down and reversing her car over him.

The investigation was helped along by the climax of the Kannada thriller Baa Nalle Madhuchandrake (Come for a Honeymoon, Darling), they disclosed.

Hemanth Kumar had allegedly been blackmailing Nafeesa for a decade after she came in contact with him at a consultancy agency.

Even when she went to Dubai two years ago, he allegedly made her send him money. Police say he continued to blackmail her for money and sex even after she returned.

On July 31, Hemanth asked Nafeesa to drive to Mysore in her Alto. They went to a jungle resort near Veeranahosalli in Hunsur taluk, and drank.

On the way back the same night, Nafeesa again took the wheel. To relieve himself, Hemanth asked her to stop the car near Kuppe village. When he returned, she reversed the vehicle, crushing him.

Police traced their mobile calls. Nafeesa had not called him even once after leaving Bangalore but her location was indicated as Hunsur.

“We recollected the climax of a Kannada film in which the hero books two tickets while setting out on his honeymoon and one ticket on the way back,” an investigator said.

The police posed as courier boys to take Nafeesa into custody but she eluded them. “Finally, we took the help of her husband to arrest her at a call centre in Electronics City,” a policeman said.

Investigation Reveals...

Hemanth Kumar had allegedly created ID cards for himself as Managing Partner, Tusker Hoods Infrastructure Development Company and Globe Detective Agency.

On Facebook, he used to project himself a rich man by posting photos in lavish settings. The idea was to lure women, police suspect.

A father of two, Hemanth had allegedly cheated many other women. His alleged killer, Nafeesa, is married but has no kids
