3 Held for Cheating Trader of Rs 10 Lakh

MYSORE: Kuvempu Nagar police arrested three youths for allegedly cheating a Bangalore-based businessman of `10 lakh on the pretext of doubling his wealth using a ‘lucky brass mug’ on Wednesday.

Police said Mahadeva, Manjunath and Mohan, all natives of H D Kote, are the accused. The two other accused -- Kishore and Somashekar --- escaped from the spot, they said.

Somashekar came in contact with Devendra, a businessman at Malleswaram in Bangalore, a few months ago and struck a deal with him for `10 lakh for giving a lucky brass mug which would double his wealth. Accordingly, Devendra was asked to come to Maramma temple on Manandawadi Road near Ring Road Junction to take the mug to his house on Tuesday morning.

He took the mug after paying the money to the accused and later realised that he has been cheated.

He lodged a complaint with the police.

Man Kills Wife

A 24-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in Madiwala police station limits  in Bangalore on Tuesday. Her husband is suspected to have murdered her in front of their two-year-old daughter.

According to the police, Munilakshmi, a resident of Bandepalya, was frequently quarrelling with her husband Anil Kumar as he had borrowed a lot of money.

On Wednesday too, they quarrelled and  Kumar strangled her to death and left the house with the baby. The incident came to light when his sister visited their home, the police added.

Couple Injured in Cylinder Blast

A worn-out tube connecting the gas cylinder to the stove led to an LPG explosion injuring 28-year-old Vijay and his 26-year-old wife Anita.

The incident took place at Thigalarapalya in Tavarakere early Wednesday morning. “Apart from the worn-out tube, the couple had also forgotten to turn off the cylinder the previous night. When they woke up in the morning and switched on the light, there was a short-circuit and this caused the explosion,” police said.

Neighbours, hearing the blast, rushed to the couple’s home and found them lying unconscious. They were rushed to Victoria Hospital and the police and fire departments were informed.
