KALABURAGI: There is no clarity on the progress of the petition filed by Samaj Parivartana Samiti against M Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress floor leader in the Lok Sabha.

Kalaburagi SPS president Bhimarao said that they were not aware of the progress made in the petition filed by its general secretary B T Ratnakar on July 17, accusing Kharge of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The complaint was filed at the Raichur Lokayukta SP office.

“There are rumours that the police have filed a B report and closed the case,” Bhimarao told Express.

Kalaburagi Lokayukta Superintendent of Police S A Chippar, who was in-charge of Raichur, did primary investigation and submitted a report. During the investigation, Ratnakar who is said to be bedridden with two paralytic strokes, is said to have told Chippar that he was not aware of the content of the petition. He, however, had said that the signature was his.

Chippar, who retired from service last month, refused to comment on the probe. “I have no information after retiring from service,” he told Express.Raichur Lokayukta DySP S B Patil said that he is not aware of the case as it was investigated by Chippar.

Meanwhile, reacting to the charges, Kharge told Express that it is a politically motivated move to sully his reputation. “I have been in public life for over four decades without a black spot. There have been no charges against me in the past,” he said.

Asked if he was considering filing a defamation case, Kharge said no, as there was no proper complaint filed with proper documents. “Why should I respond to rumour-mongering?” he asked.
