BENGALURU: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) plan to hold a huge rally in Belagavi has again been postponed, this time because of party supremo Sonia Gandhi’s illness.

According to party sources, KPCC had planned a huge rally on December 28 to counter the picketing of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha by the BJP at the start of the winter session.

It had invited Sonia and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to address the rally, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had even met senior leaders of North Karnataka in a bid to mobilise a huge crowd. The event was deferred earlier following the apprehensions of party legislators that it fell on an inauspicious new moon day.

Members to Boards

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief G Parameshwara have decided to meet in a day or two to shortlist names to be nominated as members to various boards and corporations.

They had recently appointed several party leaders to head the statutory bodies, which have also around 800 vacancies for the posts of members. Of this, 400 would be filled in the first phase by nominating party workers, a party spokesperson said.

KPCC had received over 10,000 applications from partymen seeking nominations to various bodies.
