Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the sanctity of Mysore University should not be eroded and it is the responsibility of everyone to take UoM to a higher level.

After the inauguration of the Department of Studies in Jainology, Prakrith’s new building and several other works at Crawford Hall on Sunday, he noted that many scholars have taken the university to the international level. “Apart from finances, several other problems have to be addressed and the government is ready to extend help,” he said.

Stating that special grants will be provided for the UoM centenary celebrations (2016), he asked V-C Prof KS Rangappa to host the event in a grand manner. He stressed the need of producing scholars of the calibre of Sarvapalli Radhakrishna.

Revenue Minister V Srinivasa Prasad said the quality of Indian universities is declining compared to its foreign counterparts.

Siddu: I wanted to Be a botany professor

Siddaramaiah, who is an alumni of Mysore University, said his ambition was to become a botany professor, but he could score only 52 per cent in BSc. “In disappointment, I discontinued studies and opted for agriculture. After a year, I continued my studies in Law at Sarada Vilas College. It was there I met Nanjunadaswamy and my life turned towards the political field,” he said.

‘Establish Prakrith Varsity’

Nadoja Prof Hampanagarajaiah requested the Chief Minister to establish a Prakrith University, preferably in Shravanabelogola. He noted that while there are 14 Sanskrit universities, there is not a single Prakrith varsity. “Shortage of scholars and staff have been haunting the university. By only giving financial assistance, knowledge cannot be gained,” he told the CM.
