In a setback to the political entry of Harsha Moily, son of union minister Veerappa Moily, the observers of Congress primaries election have rejected his nomination.
The final list of candidates for the primaries displays the names of veteran leader B Janardan Poojary and U K Monu.
The scrutiny of the nominations held on March 1. According to sources in the Congress party, only two candidates were found ‘eligible’ to contest the primaries. The nomination of Harsha Moily has not met the criteria of the primaries. Harsha Moily had filed his nomination as a ‘social person’.
Meanwhile, the other two persons showed their experience in the party holding various posts, he adds.
Returning officer Praneel Nair said the scrutiny process was completed transparently where as all the criteria were followed strictly.
As the primaries is a process of selecting the best candidates, there was a need for following all the criteria, he added. Sources in district Congress committee said Harsha Moily was not able to prove his connection with Congress party. So he had applied his nomination under ‘social person’ which cannot be considered for the primaries. So it made him face setback in his plans to enter politics.
Sources close to Harsha Moily told Express that he will seek clarification from the party leaders for his rejection. Harsha Moily was not available for comments.
Candidate U K Monu said he will be waiting for the primaries result.
Poojary did not want to comment as it was the decision of the party.
