MANDYA: The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) seems to have finally woken up to act against defaulters in Mandya.
As part of its drive, CESC officials disconnected the power connection to the official residence of Mandya Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) recently.
Zilla Panchayat deputy secretary B R Poornima took charge as the Additional Deputy Commissioner a few months ago.
The house where the ADC resides, had a pending bill of `19,078. The electricity bill was not paid from June 1, 2013 to August 28, 2014.
Poornima took charge as ADC on July 24 and on the same day, ADC Shankarappa was transferred. Shankarappa who vacated the house on August 28, has given only `985 to pay the bill.
The CESC officials, who noticed the pending bill amount, disconnected power to the residence on September 25.
ADC B R Poornima said Public Works Department (PWD) should pay the pending electricity bill.
“According to rules, when ADC does not reside in the official quarters, the PWD which takes up maintenance of the house, should pay the electricity bill. If ADC resides in the house, then she has to pay it,” sources said.
After the CESC officials disconnected power, ADC Poornima has written to the CESC assistant executive engineer, saying that she had written to PWD officials, asking them to pay the pending bill amount.
The pending bill amount would be cleared immediately, she said and sought 15 days to pay the bill. Following her request, the CESC officials restored the power connection to the ADC’s residence. “But even after 18 days, ADC Poornima has not paid the bill,” CESC officials said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B R Poornima said the pending bill amount would be paid by the PWD.
“The building is being renovated. As I am not staying in the ADC’s quarters, the amount should be paid by the PWD. The work will be completed by next month,” she said.
