BENGALURU:  Four farmers committed suicide in the state on Monday due to the inability to pay off their loans.

Chitradurga

Two farmers in the district committed suicide on Monday, for their inability to repay loans. Partha Prabhu (49) of Kodlahalli village in Hiriyur taluk committed suicide by hanging from a tree at his farm. Partha had availed a loan of Rs 9 lakh from Vijaya Bank and Canara Bank. Along with this, he also obtained a big amount as loan from moneylenders.

Kubendrappa (64) committed suicide by hanging on Sunday night at Rangapura of Holalkere taluk. According to the police, Kubendrappa had borrowed Rs 3.5 lakh from a bank, Rs 3 lakh from moneylenders and Rs 60,000 as crop loan from a society.

Anantha Kumar (31) of Chikka Ulagamathi village committed suicide by hanging at his house on Monday. He was unable to repay his loans due to failure of crops.

Raichur

Pampapathi Gunjalli, a farmer, committed suicide by hanging in Hasamkal village of Sindhanur taluk on Sunday. He had borrowed Rs 4 lakh from moneylenders. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
