MYSURU: The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) has dispatched 3.5 tonnes of ready-to-eat food for the flood-hit residents of Chennai.
DFRL, which responded to the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s call in three hours, sent 1.7 tonnes of ready-to-eat food comprising upma, sweet, pulav and kichdi on November 27, DFRL director Harsh Vardhan Batra told Express on Wednesday. He added that they also sent two more consignments of 18,000 meals to Chennai. Batra said that DFRL has also sent milk products to Tamil Nadu by road.
In 2014, DFRL sent ready-to-eat food to the flood-affected Jammu and Kashmir and other calamity-hit areas. Batra said DFRL is equipped to produce 2.5 tonnes of food a day and they are ready to work round-the-clock to meet the demand.
Central Food Technological Research Institute director Ram Rajasekharan also said they are fully equipped and are awaiting orders from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to supply ready-to-eat food to the flood victims.
