BANGALURU : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has urged his Goa counterpart Laxmikant Parsekar to cooperate for a negotiated settlement in the Mahadayi River Water dispute.

Siddaramaiah, in a letter to Parsekar, on Friday sought an appointment to meet an all-party delegation from Karnataka to be headed by Water Resources Minister M B Patil. The delegation will include leaders of opposition of both the Houses and representatives of farmers’ associations, who are agitating for the immediate release of 7 tmcft water.

The inter-state dispute is before the Justice Panchal Tribunal. Siddaramaiah says that pending resolution of the issues raised in the petition before the Tribunal, people of Karnataka are of the opinion that both the states should discuss the matter and resolve it amicably in the spirit of give and take, so that the peaceful co-existence between the people of Karnataka and Goa continues to foster.
