Govt's Cold Response Hurt Him

BELAGAVI: Justice V S Malimath, the chairman of Border Protection Commission, was not happy with the callous attitude of the state government on the border dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra.

According to sources, the 86-year-old justice was fed up and hurt with the cold response of the state government to  all his suggestions on dealing with the vexed border row.

Malimath, at one stage, decided to resign from the post of Border Protection Commission, but only because of pressure from the Kannada activists of Belagavi he did not forward his resignation letter to the government.

According to Belagavi Kannada activist Ashok Chandargi, who met him in Bengaluru recently, Justice Malimath had opined that the state government was not showing any  interest in the border dispute and has totally neglected it. Justice Malimath told Chandargi that if the state government continues the same attitude, the state would lose the case in Supreme Court.

“He was under tremendous stress feeling that he was not doing anything worthwhile as the chairman of the Commission and this could have hastened his death,” said Chandaragi.

The Chief Minister had recently refused an appeal by Belagavi activists who had demanded a separate minister to handle the border dispute. Chandaragi said Justice Malimath also had appealed to the Chief Minister to set up an exclusive ministry to tackle the border dispute.
