HAVERI:  A farmer was tied to a coconut tree on Thursday as he failed to return a loan of `1,800 at Ashraya Colony in Byadgi town. He was, however, rescued after members of a farmers’ organisation intervened on Friday.

Guddappa Chalwadi, a farmer of Bisalalli village, had availed the loan from one Husensab Tuminkatti. As Chalwadi failed to return the money, Tuminkatti, along with his father Malajkappa, tied Chalwadi to a coconut tree on Thursday night. Even after repeated requests from his wife and family members, Chalwadi was not released.

Later, members of Byadgi Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene rushed to the spot and rescued him.

A complaint has been filed against Tuminkatti.
