BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday launched Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation’s new Airavat Diamond Class inter-state bus service at Vidhana Soudha.

Priced at Rs 91.10 lakh each, the buses had done trial runs for six months before launch. They operated on routes from Bengaluru to Tirupati, Secunderabad, Mysuru and Chennai. A technical committee which assessed their performance has also given the green signal.

The buses will have a high-definition IP camera with night vision ability in order to ensure the safety of women and guard against thefts. Recordings will be stored for 30 days.

For drivers, an automatic gear changing system will help reduce fatigue. Vehicle tracking and monitoring systems will help track the buses’ location, speed and other parameters like arrival times and halt details. These can be integrated into the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) that KSRTC is implementing. Fares will be on par with Club Class.
