E-waste Drive Encourages Students to Act Responsibly

BENGALURU:To encourage proper disposal of electronic waste, TRIO World Academy, in association with BinBag, organised an e-waste collection and awareness drive here on Sunday.

Around 294 kg of e-waste was collected during the drive. This included UPSes, keyboards, batteries, CDs, water purifiers, telephone handsets, modems, cell phones, irons and electric trimmers.

K M Naveen, Managing Director, TRIO World Academy, said, “With this initiative, we want to spread awareness on the dangers of reprehensible disposal of electronic waste.”

BinBag, a city-based organisation that  is involved with responsible disposal of e-waste, began teaching TRIO students about  the environmental impact, responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste in September. The students were then divided into groups and assigned tasks.

The students identified local recyclers, studied the waste disposal at Sahakarnagar, conducted drives in the neighbourhood and educated people about collecting and recycling e-waste.

The TRIO World Academy’s full-time waste segregation and recycling programme was launched during the event.
