HASSAN: Former minister H D Revanna on Wednesday alleged that  the Hassan ZP president post was reserved for ST woman by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and RDPR Minister H K Patil to help the Congress in the ZP.

Addressing a press conference here, he said only the Congress has an ST woman ZP member, Sweta Nagaraj, in the ZP.

Revanna said their future course of action will be decided after discussing the matter with party senior leaders.

He said the CM and the RDPR minister should disclose the reasons for this move. Revanna said the CM has no moral right to call for the unity of secular parties to keep communal forces away from power as he is trying to finish the regional secular parties.

He said: “Let the BBMP Mayor resign and seek a fresh mandate. No doubt, the non-secular party will come to power in the state next time if the Congress continues with this attitude.”

Bhavani Unhappy with Reservation

It is now certain that the the JD(S) will not win the Hassan ZP president’s post, though the party has got absolute majority. The post is open for ST women and Sweta Devaraj of Congress is the only ST woman among 40 ZP members.

Bhavani, wife of former minister Revanna, who was aiming to become the ZP president was upset with the development. Bhavani had decided to contest ZP elections from Halekote in Holenarasipur taluk. The amendment to the RDPR Act giving the state minister’s rank to the ZP president is also a lure.
