Siddu to Be Shown Dark Side of Drought During Visit

RAICHUR: The district administration is all set to convince Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the drinking water crisis and severe drought, during his visit on Saturday.

He will be taken to the Krishna river to witness the dried-up bed. It has not only affected the drinking water supply of the city, but also made Raichur thermal power station reduce the power generation by shutting down some of its units.

A proposal would be submitted seeking to allow more water flow in the Krishna river  from Almatti dam or if needed from Koyna dam in Maharashtra. The city is solely dependant on Krishna river for drinking water. CM will be shown the agriculture activities of Telangana farmers on the left bank of the river. He will visit the

MGNREG scheme work taken up at Ashapur. Later he will review the progress of the drought relief works at the zilla panchayat hall. He will stay at Yermarus guest house where legislators of the district will be meeting him to seek more grants for drought.

The state government has released a mere `10 crore for drought relief works and `50 lakh to each taluk to combat drinking water crisis. The Chief Minister is expected to release more grants to combat the drought.

Provide Drinking Water Immediately, CM Tells Officials

Bidar: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed officials to provide drinking water wherever necessary immediately irrespecting of rules, failing which they would face disciplinary action. He addressed a meeting on drought situation in the district held at the Zilla Panchayat hall here on Friday.  Siddaramaiah visited Aurad, Bhalki, Humnabad and Bidar taluks. He also told reporters that at the time of cabinet expansion, Bidar district will get a representative.  State government chief secretary Arvind Jadhav, Agriculture minister Krishne Byregowda, district minister Umashree and MP Bhagwant Khuba were present. 

CM Convinced of Severity of Drought in North Karnataka

Kalaburagi: CM Siddaramaiah visited the drought-affected areas of Kalaburagi on Friday noon. At the goshala at Aurad village of Kalaburagi taluk, the farmers complained that inferior quality of fodder is being provided to cattle. Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda, District Minister Qamarul Islam and Medical Education Minister Sharanaprakash Patil were present. Siddaramaiah said he was convinced that the drought situation is grim in North Karnataka especially in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadagir and Raichur districts of H-K region.  He told reporters that he had a video conference with DCs to understand the ground reality.
