Idols placed in Belagavi to stop littering

BELAGAVI : The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) seems to be cashing in on such beliefs of people. The aim is to prevent residents from throwing garbage on roads.

The BCC has placed stones painted with kumkum and decorated with flowers at corners of roads where people have been dumping waste. Sources say people may not litter these places, keeping in mind the idols.

These stones are placed at the DC’s office area, near District Police Bhavan, corporation office and several other places. Interestingly, people have started putting lemons and coconuts in front of these stones.

A BCC official on the condition of anonymity, said: “It’s just like how we stopped people from spitting on walls. Instead of putting photos of gods, we are placing stones this time.”
