Woman throws sick baby girl into drain

TUMAKURU:  A woman allegedly killed her ailing baby girl by throwing her into a drain at Koratagere town in Tumakuru on Wednesday.

Kavitha (25) of Hottebetta village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh has been arrested for the murder and sent to judicial custody after her husband Manunath filed a complaint.

The baby had a wheezing problem for which she was brought to a hospital in Koratagere. The doctors had advised a thorough diagnosis to which the mother did not pay heed. She allegedly threw the baby into a drain and returned to the hospital and created a scene saying she was robbed of her valuables and the baby, police said.

The hospital authorities informed the police. During interrogation, she confessed to have killed the baby as it was not healthy. She has another girl child aged about five years, the police said. Police recovered the body and conducted a post-mortem.

Hebburu police cracked the murder case of the politician’s wife by arresting a 16-year-old school dropout who was into menial jobs.

On Monday, he had attempted to rape Vijayamma (35), wife of Narayanaswamy of JD(S).  When she raised an alarm, he hacked her to death and threw the body in a eucalyptus grove. The accused had severed one of the victim’s hands and raped her when she was unconscious, police said.

When the accused was a child, his mother had eloped with a man following the death of her husband. The upbringing was not good at his grandparents’ house, the police said.
