MYSURU: A white marble statue of the last dynastic ruler of Mysuru, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, is expected to be installed at Hardinge Circle in the city by April.
Its sculpting has been put on fast track as the royal family’s scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar’s wedding is likely to take place in May.
Noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj and nine others have been painstakingly working on the monolithic white marble imported from Austria by a Jaipur-based merchant.
On completion, the statue will stand 10 feet tall on a five-foot high pedestal.
This statue is going to be different from the ones already standing in the heritage city.
The statues of Chamaraja Wadiyar and Krishnaraja Wadiyar were sculpted by artists from London and Mumbai respectively using Carrara marble of Italy. “This is the first time that Mysuru artists have got an opportunity to sculpt a member of the royal family”, Arun said.
