BELAGAVI: Security personnel posted at the Belagavi airport went into a tizzy today when 12 students from a nearby madarasa scaled a 12 ft wall and trespassed into the airport.
The airport is a sensitive zone as it is situated adjacent to the Indian Air Force base at Sambra.
The Central Industrial Security Force personnel managed to nab four of the intruders while the rest fled back over the wall.
The police later found that they were students, all aged 12-15, from the madarasa at Pantbalekundri. They scaled the wall to see airplanes take off.
As soon as CISF personnel spotted the breach on their surveillance cameras, they rushed to the spot and arrested four of the students. The rest fled from the scene by climbing over the wall again.
Police were informed about the incident, and the four students were asked tough questions. Authorities from the madarasa were called to ascertain their identities.
While these investigations were on, rumours spread that "terrorists" had entered the airport, prompting people to gather on the road leading to the airport.

As the airport is located adjacent to the Air Force Station, police had a tough time handling the crowd.
After a preliminary inquiry, airport authorities handed over the arrested boys to the Marihal police.
