BENGALURU: While former chief minister S M Krishna quit the Congress to join the BJP recently, his grand nephew Dr Niranthar Ganesh joined the former party on Wednesday.

Ganesh is an orthopedic surgeon at MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru and hails from Mudigere in Chikmagaluru district.

KPCC working president Dinesh Gundurao formally inducted Ganesh along with a group of 30 doctors into the party at the KPCC office. Ganesh has been a supporter of Congress for the past couple of years and has expressed interest to contest the next assembly election from Kadur constituency.

Reiterating his interest to continue serving people in health and education sectors, Ganesh said he is entering the political domain with a motto of service. Ganesh is the grandson of Krishna’s sister S M Sunitha, who passed away recently.

Dinesh rules out early polls
Speaking to reporters, Dinesh Gundu Rao ruled out the possibility of the Congress going for an early poll riding on its recent success in the bypoll. “The Siddaramaiah government will complete its term of five years and election will be held next April.

There should be no doubt about it. We will fight the election under the collective leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara. We will seek the mandate of the people on the development plank,” he said.
