Karnataka: Corporator on the run issues notice to police commissioner to stop Bomb Naga reference

Nagaraj’s lawyer, Srireddy, stated that in 2015 the Karnataka High court had issued an order whereby Nagaraj would only be referred to by his name, as nicknames could malign his image in society.

BENGALURU: The lawyer of absconding former corporator, V Nagaraj, wanted in cases of money extortion and others has issued a  notice to city police commissioner Praveen Sood on Friday to stop referring to him with nick names like ‘Bomb Naga’ or ‘Pal Naga.’

In the notice issued to the commissioner Nagaraj’s lawyer, Srireddy, stated that in 2015 the Karnataka High court had issued an order whereby Nagaraj would only be referred to by his name, as nicknames could malign his image in society.

Srireddy said that additional commissioner of police (east) Hemant Nimbalkar had also referred to him as Bomb Naga when he was addressing media persons, on the day of the raids.

“In future if the police refer to him as ‘Bomb Naga’ we will file a contempt case against the police,” he said.

Nagaraj, who is wanted in money extortion cases and for accumulating huge amounts of demonestised currency is on the run.

Though his name was earlier removed from the rowdy-sheeter list after court directions, police officials added it again after over two complaints have been registered against Nagaraj.

In 2015, Nagaraj had approached the High Court seeking directions to police not to refer to him as ‘Bomb Naga’ or ‘Pal Naga’ in their records.
