Karnataka varsity VSKU detects major fake document racket

BALLARI: The Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) has withheld the results of 631 graduate students for submitting fake PU marks cards to secure admissions in various colleges in Ballari and Koppal districts.
According to vice-chancellor M S Subash, the fake documents came to the authorities’ notice after the university inspected student documents from 67 colleges. Twelve more colleges are yet to send the information to the university. The number of fake marks cards detected might increase once the 12 colleges submit the documents.
VC Subhash said students used marks cards issued by various unrecognised and fake PU examination boards to gain admission to undergraduate courses in colleges under the VSKU ‘s jurisdiction in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

A press release issued by VSKU said the principals of these colleges did not take the matter seriously though all of them were sent circulars asking them to verify documents prior to admitting students.

The VSKU suspects that the racket may have spread to other universities in Karnataka.

According to VSKU sources, the scam came to light last year when authorities were verifying student documents. "This year we caught a parent who submitted fake second PUC documents to gain admission for his son in one college. When we inquired, he revealed that several others used the same methods," a VSKU source said.

Following the detection of the racket, VSKU has begun thoroughly examining documents submitted by students, the source added.
