We name our dogs after Tipu in Kodagu: BJP leader Addanda Cariyappa

BENGALURU: The controversy over Tipu Jayanti celebrations took another turn, when the former president of Kodava Sahithya Academy and national convenor of anti-Tipu Jayanthi celebrations committee of BJP, Addanda Cariyappa, said that many like him in Kodagu have named their dog after ‘Tipu’.

Speaking at the anti-Tipu celebrations held on Monday, he demanded the state government to cancel the state-sponsored event.

“Tipu Sultan was a traitor and the Kodava community faced many atrocities and humiliation during his regime. So many in Kodagu name their dogs after Tipu as a mark of revenge against the humiliation," he said.

In response, Food and Civil Supplies minister U T Khader said that some people are commenting irresponsibly and they are not the ones to take any decisions on what government should celebrate.

"Tipu was one of the greatest freedom fighters who fought against the British,” he said.
