Delay in results: Visvesvaraya Technological University students hit the streets

Recently, the university authorities said the results would be announced by April 15. But till today the results have not been announced, said students.

BENGALURU: Hundreds of engineering students from colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi,  staged a protest in the city on Wednesday demanding declaration of results of the odd semester examinations held in December 2016 and January 2017.

Recently, the university authorities said the results would be announced by April 15. But till today the results have not been announced, said students.

According to them, the results are usually declared by January end, extending up to the first few weeks of February. However this year, the university seemed to have pushed the declaration of results to April.

“We heaved a sigh of relief on April 15, when VTU released a statement that the results would be declared in two-three days. Ironically, on April 16 messages were circulated on WhatsApp stating that VTU has lost the Internal assessment marks and are requesting the colleges to upload them again. Now, there will be an additional delay and results will be announced only after April 30, said aggrieved students.

The students are worried as the next semester exams are scheduled to be held from June 5. Final year students too are concerned over the delay as they have to take up higher studies or job offers.

When contacted, Dr Karisiddappa, Vice-chancellor, VTU, said that there was no issue with internal assessment marks and that the results would be declared by Monday.
