MYSURU: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has been arrested for violating the route sanctioned by the district police to take out Hanuman Jayanthi celebration in Hunsur, near here. He along with his supporters was taken into custody for deviating from the route approved by the police.

Police have imposed prohibitory orders in the town in the wake of Hanuma Jayanthi and Eid Milad celebrations falling simultaneously. Hunsur is considered communally sensitive area following communal violence in 2015.

Pratap Simha criticised cops for arresting him despite their failure in checking illegal cattle transportation to neighbouring Kerala, illegal sand mining and other activities. He warned cops that they would be responsible if there would be any damage to the idol of Hanuman installed at Town Hall grounds as part of Hanuman Jayanthi celebrations.

Meanwhile, police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse Hindu activist near Manjunatha temple demanding the release of Pratap Simha. SP Ravi Channavar is camping in Hunsur town.
