BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s promise of carving out new taluks for better governance will become a reality on January 1 as the state will get 50 new taluks. Announcing this here on Monday, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa said that apart from the 50 taluks, the state government is also considering the demand to create two more taluks. “We are facing strong demand for a few more taluks. We are examining the proposal to carve out two more taluks,” he said.

Vijayapura district will benefit the most as it will have seven new taluks — Babaleshwara, Nidagundi, Tikota, Devarahipparagi, Talikota, Chadachana and Kolhara. Bengaluru Urban district will see Yelahanka emerge as a new taluk. About 1,000 small hamlets in the state will also be declared as revenue villages on New Year’s Day.  The much delayed distribution of title deeds to farmers cultivating on Bagair Hukum lands will also be fulfilled soon as the High Court has lifted the stay against it. The title deeds will be distributed from February, Thimmappa said.
