BENGALURU: Computers of two persons, including a Computer Science lecturer, have been infected with the ransomware 'WannaCry' in Karnataka. The incidents were reported from Shivamogga and Haveri districts.

In the first incident, a laptop belonging to Computer Science lecturer Arjun, who works for a private engineering college in Shivamogga, was attacked.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, Arjun said he had worked using the laptop on Monday morning. "However, when I opened the laptop today, I was shocked to see the ransomware message on the screen," he said. “All the data in the laptop was encrypted and there were no confidential files in it," he added.

Therefore, he did not prefer to lodge a complaint, he said.

In a separate incident, another computer was affected in Haveri district. Cyber security experts have warned that there might be an increase in ransomware attacks on personal computers in the coming days.
