BENGALURU: With heavy rainfall continuing unabated in Coastal and Malnad region, the Revenue department has issued an advisory to maintain strict vigil in dams as well as in areas downstream of the reservoirs. Authorities concerned have been directed to suspend water-based recreational activities in the rivers, and to man popular river spots.
The advisory also asks for necessary precautions to be taken to regulate the release of water smoothly without creating flood-like situation downstream.Taking note of the Tungabhadra river, which is receiving high inflow, the advisory has said that water levels are likely to rise along the river banks in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Ballari.
“Central Water Commission has already issued an advisory on rapid rise in river water levels in rivers of Karnataka. People are advised to be extra cautious while venturing into the river bed as water levels and flows are higher than normal and may be unpredictable,” the advisory said.
