TUMAKURU:  A box of electric detonators was found abandoned at Pavagada town on Wednesday. When some passersby found the suspicious box under a tamarind tree near a housing board on Venkatapura road, they informed the police.

The box contained nine bundles, with each bundle consisting of 60 pieces.  They were meant to trigger an explosive device mainly used to blast rocks in stone mining. Some miscreants might have left them abandoned and the timely intervention of the police checked a possible fire mishap, sources said.

“We have sought the court’s permission to transport it to a safe house at Koratagere which is a legal stockist for the detonators”, informed the PSI Madhusudhan. The deputy superintendent of police O B Kalleshappa also visited the spot and examined it. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
