BENGALURU: Three days after CBSE results were announced for Grades 10 and 12, the results of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) exams were out on Sunday afternoon.
In the state-wise category, in Karnataka, the top three rank holders were from Bengaluru and Shivamogga. The highest score by any student was 99.8% in ICSE (Grade 10) and 99.75% in ISC (Grade 12).
In the region-wise category, South India ranked second with a pass percentage of 99.69 after Western India with 99.81%.
The Council For Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) that released the results said 26 students got the first, second and third ranks in ICSE and eight students in ISC. Annanya Karthik, who scored 99.8%, is the top rank holder of Karnataka in ICSE. Akshaya Sutrave and Anondee Saha, who both scored 99.6%, shared the second rank. In all, 23 students with identical scores of 99.4% shared the third rank. Mayur M Gowda from St Joseph’s Aksharadhama School in Shivamogga was the only non- Bengalurean who secured a spot in the top three ranks.
Akshaya Sutrave, a student of VIBGYOR High, told The New Indian Express that she wants to pursue a career in astrophysics. “The month prior to our examinations really helped. I used to start studying around 11 am and used to take small breaks in between. The question papers were pretty balanced. In fact, they were easier than the pre-board question papers,” she said.
Anondee Saha, another second-rank holder, said she started overthinking about her performance in some of the exams. “But I knew that the amount of hours I had put in for studying would bring me good results. I was thrilled when I got the results and pleasantly surprised to find my name on the merit list,” she said.
Boys shine in ICSE, girls in ISC
In ISC, there were three first rank holders with a score of 99.25%, three second-rank holders with 99% each and two third-rank holders with 98.75% each. The first rank holders were Anandita David from Mallya Aditi International School, Sebanti Hui from Greenwood High and Dirisinala Sri Sai Akshaya from Christ Academy ICSE School. Sebanti said she tried not to overburden herself while studying.
“I had chalked out a timetable. Depending on the subject and what lessons I wanted to cover for the day, I would spend around 8-10 hours a day studying. I tried not to go over 10 hours, because I know my brain has its limits,” she said. She hopes to pursue a career in academics and become a professor.
Unlike in the CBSE and SSLC exams, where girls scored much higher than boys, in ISC and ICSE exams, it was divided. All the top seven ISC rank holders are girls, except one boy. However, in ICSE, of the 26 rank holders, 12 are girls and 14 are boys.
