BENGALURU: Karnataka has achieved a major milestone in grassroots governance with 5,943 gram panchayats recording unprecedented tax collection and revenue realisation during 2025-26, according to RDPR amd IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
He said the total tax collection stood at Rs 1,382.57 crore, an increase of Rs 110.04 crore over the previous year’s Rs 1,272.54 crore. This shows a record 89% realisation. It is the highest in recent years. Kharge attributed the achievement to improved systems, accountability and empowerment of local bodies. “Every rupee collected is being reinvested in village infrastructure, public services and local development. This is a strong foundation for inclusive and sustainable rural growth,” he said.
Kharge said Karnataka, which had secured the top position at the national level in tax collection and revenue mobilisation, continues its upward trajectory. “In 2024-25, gram panchayats achieved 80% collection efficiency for the first time in the rural development department’s history. The latest figures show further improvement in revenue mobilisation. The success is a result of awareness campaigns, targeted collection drives and coordinated efforts,’’ he said.
Raichur recorded an exceptional 129% tax collection, while 11 districts surpassed 100%. Over the past three years, Karnataka witnessed a steady increase in tax mobilisation, with increased revenues being channeled into public works, civic services and local development initiatives, contributing to the overall progress of rural communities, he said.
