MANDYA: More than Rs 8 lakh in cash and coins was found in the house of a 70-year-old woman who had reportedly been living by begging for several years in Mandya and died at her home on Sunday due to age-related ailments.
The woman, identified as Hoor, also known as Noor, was a resident of Sabdariya Mohalla at Guthalu Layout in Mandya city. She had been living alone after her brothers, Fazil and Abbas, migrated to Bengaluru. Hoor had reportedly been begging near a local mosque since childhood. When the neighbours did not see Hoor coming out of her house until the afternoon on Sunday, they informed Fazil and the family members of Abbas.
They arrived in Mandya and performed her final rites. Later, while inspecting the house, they found around 30 bundles containing cash and coins. After counting the money, the total amount was around Rs 8.4 lakh.
