UDUPI: A 31-year-old man allegedly killed his parents with a hammer following an argument at Baikady village in Gandhinagar, Brahmavara, Udupi district, on Sunday at around 7 pm. The deceased were Mehboob Ali (55), a truck driver and his wife Shamshad Begum (50). Their son, Shaheed Ali, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Shaheed used to work as a food delivery executive. Both victims died on the spot.
Police said Shaheed claimed that his father frequently assaulted and scolded him, while his mother allegedly supported his father. In a fit of rage, he reportedly attacked both of them. Following the incident, Shaheed himself contacted the police emergency number 112 and informed them about the murder. Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said the accused alleged that he had been mentally harassed and physically assaulted by his parents, who reportedly taunted him for being useless and unmarried. A case has been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station under Section 103 of the BNS, 2023.
He further said he kept their bodies until Monday morning. The mother’s body was found in the bedroom, while the father’s body was found in the living room. There were also signs of resistance on the body of the deceased, Shamshad.
He also said that the need for psychological counselling must be assessed. There is also a claim that the accused was addicted to online gaming and that the addiction may have contributed to his behaviour.
