BENGALURU: Bengaluru-based Pratitee Bordoloi, a 13-year-old Woman FIDE Master (WFM), created history by winning the silver medal in the Girls Under-18 category at the International Chess Federation World Youth Chess Championship at Montesilvano, Italy.
India’s only medallist at the event, she also secured her first Woman International Master (WIM) norm, said the Karnataka State Chess Association on Saturday.
Pratitee lone Indian medallist among 13 Indians
A student of Shishya BEML Public School, Pratitee qualified to represent India after winning the National Under-17 Girls Chess Championship in Ahmedabad earlier this year.
The championship featured 758 players from 83 countries competing between June 15 and 26, across the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18, Open and Girls categories. India fielded 13 players across the six sections, but only Pratitee bagged a medal for the country. Pratitee produced an unbeaten campaign, scoring 9 points from 11 rounds (7 wins, 4 draws, 0 loss). She began with four consecutive victories to move into the joint lead.
