

KOLLAM: Literary critic K P Appan passed away at the Medical Trust Hospital, Kayamkulam, on Monday.
He was 72. The end came at 8.15 a.m. at the hospital where he was admitted five days ago.
Appan had been undergoing treatment for cancer at the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, and was discharged from there two weeks ago.
The body was brought to his house at Mundakkal here by 11 a.m. and laid there for the public to pay their last respects.
Large number of people from all walks of life came to pay homage to the writer.
The body will be placed at the S N College here at 9 a.m. on Tuesday for his former colleagues and students to pay their respects. The funeral will be held at the Polayathodu public crematorium at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with full state honours. He is survived by wife Omana and sons Rajith and Sreejith.
He was born to Padmanabhan and Karthyayani of Karthikayil, Poonthoppu, Alappuzha, on August 25, 1936. He had his school education at Sanathana Dharma Vidya Sala, Alappuzha. He had his college education from SD College, Alappuzha and Maharajas College, Ernakulam.
