

THRISSUR: Kerala Sahitya Akademi president M Mukundan on Saturday announced the awards of the Akademi for 2008 at a press conference here. Each award consists of Rs 20,000, citation and a plaque, he said.
Announcing the awards, Mukundan said that the late P A Uthaman’s novel ‘Chavoli’ had been selected for the award for novel while poetry ‘Anniluda’ by Ezhachery Ramachandaran bagged the award for poetry. Jayaprakash Kulur bagged the award for drama while Santosh Echikkanam got the award for short story.
The award for literary criticism has gone to V Rajakrishnan while P K Pokker got the award for informatics literature.
‘Smrithiparvam’ by P K Warrier has been selected for the award for biography/autobiography while Eyamkode Sreedharan bagged the award for travelogue.
Muthulakshmi got the award for translation.
The award for child literature has gone to K Papputty and K L Mohana Varma got the award for humorous literature.
Mukundan has announced the endowment awards for 2008. They are I C Chacko award (Rs 2000) to R Vasudevan Potty, C B Kumar Award (Rs 1500) to V K Sreeraman, K R Namboodiri award (Rs 2,000) to N V P Unnithiri, Kanakasree Award (Rs 2000) to V K Hama, G N Pillai award (Rs 3,000) to Paul Panalil, Geeta Hirinyan award (Rs 5,000) to S Hareesh, Bombay Natakavedi award to Rafiq Mangalassery, Kuttipuzha Krishnanpillai Award to P P Ravindran and Thunjan Smaraka essay competition prize to Sugith P G.
The Akademi president said that the awards would be distributed at the Akademi’s annual day celebrations scheduled to be held in May this year.
