PATHANAMTHITTA: Revolutionary Youth Front state secretary Salim P Chacko on Sunday urged the Union Government to clear the misgivings with regard to the proposed free trade pact with the ASEAN countries and explain the conditions in the pact. Inaugurating the dharna on Quit India Day in front of the Mini Civil Station here as part of the RYF agitation against the Central Government’s move to sign a trade pact with ASEAN and protest against rising prices, Salim P Chacko said zeroduty imports would have a devastating effect on the agricultural sector, especially cash crops. Free trade with ASEAN countries would result in the dumping of farm products from these countries in the domestic market which would result in a crash in prices of spices, coconut and rubber, he said.
