THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For film star Bineesh Kodiyeri, it was like the climax scene of a suspensethriller.
For his father and Home Minister of Kerala Kodiyeri Balakrishnan it was a chance to sincerely repent on the deviation from Marxist line during the marriage of his elder son.
But, the 300-odd guests who assembled at the conference hall of Mascot Hotel on Saturday to attend the engagement of Bineesh and Rinita were surprised to hear an unexpected announcement from Kodiyeri after the engagement. “As agreed upon by both the families, we are going to conduct the marriage here itself. There won’t be another wedding ceremony. I request all of you to accept our decision,’’ said Kodiyeri Balakrishnan after the engagement.
The announcement was accepted with cheers and the marriage rituals followed.
Rinita is the daughter of Pradeep and Mini, NRI couple now settled at PTP Nagar here, and a final-year degree student of the Mar Ivanios College.
She is a close relative of veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran.
The wedding of Bineesh’s brother Binoy, which was a luxurious affair, had landed Kodiyeri in a soup. The luxury, which was unprecedented in the lives of Marxist leaders, stirred up a debate inside the party. Sources in the CPM said that Kodiyeri wanted Bineesh’s marriage to be as simple as possible to avoid any controversy.
K Karunakaran, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala, Ministers M A Baby, P K Sreemathi, N K Premachandran, C.Divakaran and M Vijayakumar and senior police officials attended the function.
